New superhero comic, Spark!

bettersupes:

Hey, everyone! This is the creator of Little Girls Are Better At Designing Superheroes Than You, here with a post I thought you all might like. Writer Ted Anderson and I have made a pitch for a superhero comic!

The comic is about nine-year-old Lucia Marquez-Miller, who loves engineering, and uses her telekinetic powers to build and take things apart with her mind. She calls this power her spark!

As Spark, the world’s youngest superhero, she’s a junior member of a superhero team while also trying to live a normal life. Can Lucia juggle her friends and family while also saving the world from supervillains?

We’re posting a 15-page standalone comic here on tumblr to give readers an idea of what the book would be like.

Click “read more” below to continue reading the comic!

If you’re looking for an awesome rainy day or ‘It’s way too hot to go outside today’ activity, why not have a go at Barbie doll mummification? It’s all kinds of morbid, geeky fun. Heather and her daughter Izzy started with a trip to the library and some research to create an adorably macabre step-by-step “How to Make a Mummy” list. Then the gathered and/or made all the necessary materials. Barbie’s internal organs and ceremonial death mask are paper cutouts. They used a seam ripper in place of the special tool that ancient Egyptians used to pull the brain out through the nose and a shoebox for the sarcophagus and burial chamber. They also included a tiny toy kitty, because they were sacred to the Egyptians and sometimes part of the burial process.

Visit the Kids Activities Blog for additional photos and a complete description of the Barbie mummification process.

What’s Your Book Shelfie Style?

Alphabetical. By title, then by sequel.

Personal significance… that’s how I organize my books, also, by height.

I go with height to personal significance to stacked. I like stacked books hehe

Mine is currently* height + personal significance/genre, but I’m probably going to incorporate some stacks in the next rearrangement!

*actually this is a lie, my books are currently packed away into boxes, but that’s how they were last week so I’m goin with it :)

Happy Independence Day

It’s just not a proper Independence Day without President Bill Pullman delivering his career defining performance.
